To: Jim Iles
From: Marian Dent
Date: November 14, 1985
Subject: 4228 South 3rd
Our department, Fire Department and Health Department have received
several complaints from the neighbor, Chris Conway, concerning the
structure and premises of this place.
He has complained of garbage, junk vehicles, the yard full of trash,
a business being conducted on the premises, storage of various
gasses and other chemicals stored in the garage. He has also com-
plained about people living in the structure.
The Fire Department looked at the chemicals situation. 1 was
informed that they didn't see anything. I don't know if they entered
the garage.
The Health Department took the garbage and rat complaints. The
inspector said he did not observe any garbage. The inspector
handling the rats did not call me.
1 took all the other complaints. In checking back on our files I
found that the structure had been posted illegal to occupy in 1971.
There was no correction work done on the building. Mr. Cole bought
the building in 1974 and was made aware of the problems with the
structure and was informed that permits were required for the work.
Now the building is occupied, the premises ar•e very trashy, vehicles
are parked or stored on the premises.
On October loth I sent a letter to the owner, Mr. Cole, with all the
violations noted. Approximately two weeks later I received a call
from a woman claiming to be an attorney for the owner. She asked
what I meant by trash; I explained it to her. She asked if we had
reports on file from 1971 on and I sai yes. She asked if she or
the owners could get copies; I said yes.
No one has come in for copies of reports and nothing else has
happened except fnr the constant calls and one letter from Mr. Conway.
What do you suggest we do?
