February 25, 1987
Geri L. I think it imp two se arate items, as far as I
Simpson site arid the South Third Project are P
am concerned.
Since the Mayor has requested me to answer your let.ter, I offe.r the following
on the zoning concer. The Simpson property is presently zoned M-1 HeaY
Marwfacturig• 11ny change in zoning of the property would have to be
initiated by either the City or the property owner, and, would be considered
in a separate formal process. In that sense, the proPerty is "grandfathered"
into the M-1 zoning, as you put it, regardless of ownership. However, any
specific development proposal which may be submitted must go through t.he
fornal review and approval process. Rlso, remember that busiress a
conmercial uss other than manufacturing are permitted by M-1 zoning.
With that, I am probably close to the limit of my ability to help Y
regarding zoniny. merefore, I will Teo isU•the expertErv haVe t al stions
Planning Department (phone 259-8731) lad to answer any further
Gerry about your letter and he will be g
regarding zoning with which you may need help.
Now for that which I am more directly resposible, The South Third Project.
"walkway")
Simply stated, the project of Souih Thirda PThes seope fofithey project was
along the west side, only, the purpose at
worked out in cooperation with a citizens committee from Lowell, whic
included Jule an Der Meersche. Rs I mentioned previously, ye1ever
hand is to add a safe pedestrian faciserved along withelthe walkway. At this
possible, parking space will be P
point, I don`t foresee any particular difficulty with maint.aining sufficie.
parking in the area of your home•
