Temporary cuts to a depth of about four (4) fee'c i
in unsaturated soils may be attempted 'rertically. eased upon
n'ashington Adininistrative Code (wAC) 296 , Part n, the soil
type at the sita wculd be classified as Typp B, and therefore ,
slopes grea.er than four fe::t cannot be excavated steeper than
1 : 1 (Horiz_ntal :vertical ) ,
'f qll perianent cuts into naCive soils should be inclined no
` steeper tlian 2:1 (H:V) . Fill slepes should not be constructed
i with an nclination greater than 2 : 1 !H:Vi . Water should not
1 ' be alloMed to flow uncontrolled over the top of any slope.
Also, al permanently e:cposed slopes should be seeded with an
appropriate species of vegetatinn to reduce erosion and
i improve stability of the surficial layer of so: l .
Any disturbance to the existing slope outside of the building
I li .nits may reduce the stability of the slope. Damage to the
existing vegetation and ground should be minimized, and any
disturbed areas should be revegetated as soon as possible.
Soil from the excavation should not be placed on the slope,
whidi may require off-site disposal of surplus soil .
r
DRAINACE GONSIDFRATIONS
We recommend the use of footing drains at tfie base of all
footings and backfilled earth retaining walls. These drains
should be surrounded by at least six (6) inches of one-inch-
mins washed rock wrapped in non-woven geotextile filter
fahr-ic (Mirafi 140N, Supac 4NP, or similar material ) . At the
' highest point, the perforated pioe invert should be at least
as low as the bottom of the footing and it should be sloped
for drainage. All roof and surface water drains must be kept
separate from the foundation drain systein. A typical drain
detail is attached to this report as Plate 5 .
 GEOTECH CONSULTANTS , INC.
