nugusc zs, IVS
City of Everett
Public Works,City Enginccr
3200 Cedar
Evcrett,WA 98201
Larry:
On your inspection visit to Project Site 414 View Ridge Dc,8verct,WA,Mechanical
Permit N40450,several concems were raised:
I) Would the PVC schedule 40 in ihe chimney be distorted by boiler exhaust gages? You
askcd mc to ehcck tcmperaurc rating of schedulc 40 pipc.
2) TemperaNre of watcr tank and boilcr(oil)cxhausts.
As a result of your concems,1 did research this and found the following:
I) Upon talking to Rheem Mfg.(Vanguard),in Montgomery Alabama,Ihc scrvice
cngineer's told me that PVC schedulc 40 is rated to 300 dcgrees.
2) So et this time,I took tempemture rcadings on the stacks and the results were found to
be 250 dcgrecs for the wacr tank and 225/240 degrees on the boiler system. Thcse
iemperatures as you notice fall wcll wilhin the raing of schedule 40 PVC.
I might also mcntion thc question about tlic chimncy. Wc had wondered whyhc
manufacturcr said in thc booklct not to vcnl in a chimncy or duct work and i found ow in
talking to Rhccm Mfy.'s Gnginccr that it is not a safcty qucstion, but rathcr an operaiional
concern. Their concem is ihat back pressure could stophe water heater from starting,
due to holding out the pressure switch, othenvise ihey epressed no concem.
I hope this Ietter addresses your coneerns and appreciate your Ihoroughness in matters of
I safety.
Sinccrcly,
/
,C` /ti.t';'.{/l
Ned Ludington '
