April 6, 2006
PUBL/C f!/O?.,,CS
ANNA GIFFEN
11702 25T" AVE SE
EVERETT WA 98208
Re: Connection to Available Public Sewer -- 2318 VIRGINIA q (_
This letter is to inform you that a review of our records indicates that your property may
not be connected to the public sewer system. The Eveett Municipal Code requires all
property owners within 150 feet or adjacent to a public sanitary sewer shall ccnnect
their private sewer system to the public sewer after being notified by the City of Cverett
Public Works Department.
Our records alo indicate that your property is adjacent to, or is within 150 feet of an
existing public sanitary sewer, I have enclosed an excerpt from our sanitary sewer
chart indicating the proximity of your property to s public sanitary sewer system. Any
costs to connect, including construction and monthly sewer service charges, is to be
borne by tlie property owner.
If you believe your residence or business is currently connected to the City's sewer
main, please r,ontact the City of Everett Publir Works Department at 425-257-8800 so
we can update our records.
A sewer permit and application issued by the City and signed by an inspector is one
viable means of proof. Another alternative to prove the structure is connected to the
sewer syszm is to allow the City of Everett to perform a dye test. A dye test requires
the owner's permission and the resident's notification to allow a city employee to enter
the premises and flush dye into the toilet. In a short emount of tirce the colored water
will appear in the sewer main if the residence is hooked up to the sewer system.
In the event you are not currently connected to the sewer and wish to delay connection,
the City engineer may, on written reque;•t from the property owner, extend the time to
connect to the public sewer for a period of up to a maximum of 10 years; provided that,
at the property owner's expense, the Snoliomish Health District certifies, in writing, to
the Public Works Gepartment that the existing sewage systern is operational. The
Snohomish Health District can be contacted at 425-339-5250; ask for the Wastewater
Division. To request a waiver, please return the enclosed form.
Everett Municipal Code further establishes that all properties within 150 feet of an
available public sanitary sewer, who fail to connect after notice by the City, shall pay to
CITY OF EVERETT • 3200 Cedar Street • Everetl, WA 98201 •(425) 257-8800 • Fax (425) 257-8882
