E
Plan Check No. 1328
Byron Backstrom
August 24, 1983
Page Eleven
L
lateral forces. This includes all walls not assumed to be participating(for ex-
ample: 7/S3.4 and 15/S3.6, and the stubby columns with the deep wall spandrels
shown on Sheet S3.2 and S3.1) Section 2312(j)D
22. The footing across the 12'0" door opening along Grid Line D should be designed
as a continuous footing across the opening with steel reinforcement located on the
top and bottom, parallel to the wall. Sheet S2.1
23. The width of the footing along Grid Line 14 should be specified.
24. The earth active pressure should be considered in imposing additional lateral
loads to the shear walls.
25. Shear wall lintel designs assumes shear defonm tion only in the distribution
of the vertical sheer. In shear walls 8/S3.4 and 14/S3.5 bending deformation may
be significant. Further, it would seem that the vertical shear through a lintel
should depend on the magnitude of the shear at the level of the lintel, and not an
average of the total shear through the whole wall.
26. In conjunction with Comment 25 above, the outer solid walls may begin to act
as individual walls depending on the flexibility of the lintels. Flexural chord
steel may be necesc3ry along Grid Lines C and B.
27. The concrete topping of the slab and connections to the walls at the second
level between Grid Line 2 and Grid Line 1 should be reviewed for adequacy to trans-
fer 732 Kips from Grid Line 2 to Grid Line 1. See calculation Sheet Wllc.
28. Design and connection details of the C12 x 20.7 cooling tower support beam and
cooling tower anchorage should be prov;ded. Sheet S2.7
29. Openings in the floor girders should be detailed with stirrups in both top and
bottom elements. The top stirrups should be tied as required for columns. The
analysis should include the ;noment from the 3' span of the upper portion. See
Calculation Sheet B-24
30. An analysis should be provided which considers the effects of dif - rential
settlement in the order of 112" ss indicated in the soil report p. 4 of Shannon &
Wilson.
An invoice for plan checking services rendered based on the proper valuation will
be forwarded to you under separate cover (when you have determined the correct
value), Note that a recheck is included in this fee.
I am retaining all data and plans in anticipation of telephone calls from the
architect and also that I will be doing the recheck. Please instruct the archi-
tect to indicate on a separate sheet on which sheet or detail the correction may
be found. Please notify me if you wish to do the recheck so that I may return the
plans.
