Memorandum
WMFL Project No. 8105.02
Page 2
December 21. 1983
7. Design complies with 15-minute thermal barrier on room side
of the foam plastic insulation. Pre -manufactured walk-in
coolers and freezers meet all requirements of Section 1717
UBC, per phone conversation with Bob Westlund, of Volrath Co.
in Seattle (206/771-5643).
9. See Item 5 in Section A above.
12. Review and approval of the automatic sprinkler system by a
"rating bureau" is not required, but can be done if desired
by the County, at County expense.
14. Both items a and b require review and approval by the Everett
Building Department.
26. Agree. Contractor will be notified.
0. Exit Comments
1. Review and approval by Everett Building Department required.
Preliminary indications from the Building Department were
that Stairway N2 was acceptable for a smokeproof enclosure as
designed. Note: 1982 UBC allows smokeproof enclosures to be
omitted if all exit stairways are pressurized and provided
with a relief opening.
2. Security design demands alternates, therefore, building okay
as designed.
3. Disagree. Cutdoor recreation rooms 501 and 572 must be
considered as "outdoor." They are "roofed" by a security
screen only and are open to fresh air and the elements.
7. Review of entire booking area required by Everett City
Building Department.
8. b. Disagree. Stair enclosure discharges directly outside.
Corridor 157 and door 156 are not pa,t of the 2-hour stair
exit enclosure.
c. Disagree. However, if the reviewing authority insists
on this change, it won't be a major problem to revise.
Change Order required.
12. Doors in the medical service and housing areas should swing
into the corridor for security reasons. The overriding
concern here is to prevent inmates from barricading
themselves in the various rooms where staff might not be able
to gain access.
