Budden
Chief Inspector (Building)
City of Everett
3200 Cedar Street
Everett, WA 98201
Dear Mr. Budden:
29 1984
................_.
CITY OF EVERETT
Put'.!c Works Dert.
Our firm is currently in the process of providing cabinets/
casework for the new Snohomish County Detention Facility. The
Architect for this project has specified in our section the
use of t£ire rated' plastic laminate for the finish on the
cabinetry throughout the project.
According to the flame spread code in Group I occupancy
buildings the class rating is either class I, II, or III
(depending on the interpretation) for interior walls or ceil-
ings. No where in the code does it say anything in regard to
cabinets and or casework. According to the A.W.I. (see attached
brochure) and their research, cabinets do not apply to flame
spread ratings. I am not however, stating that this information
is documented "building code" but only an interpretation after
extensive research done by the A.W.I.
I feel we need an interpretation from you as chief engineer
for the city of Everett on this subject matter. We look forward
to working on this project and would appreciate if you could
get this interpretation to us in writing as soon as possible
so tie can forward the information to the architect.
Thank you for your assistance and if there is anything I can
do to be of help feel free to call me.
Sincerely,
4
Rob Rushton
President
cc: file
