Although 1
thought 1 had discusaed the altemative aith you over the telephone, let me
outllne It now.
Under the prexnt Cfty ordinance, Chapter 14.16.310, copy attached, a new
servlce connectton must be applled !or when a service has been dormant for five
or more years. From your letter you already know this. By explanat[on, the
purpose of thls part of the ordinance is to defray the cost of rehabilitating old
service connections that because of age are elther unservlceable, or have a
doubtful xrvice life left. However, ln your sltuatlon you have a copper servlce
that will probably last many more years. Recognlzing that because of the
increaetng irequency of use ai copper since the original ordlnance was enacted,
we are revls[ng this ordinance along wlth some other publlc service ordinances
within the next 60 to 90 days. The alternative then to paying a new service
connection See now is to wait for the revised ordlnance which wlll take into
account the condltion of dormant services such as yours.
If I can be of further assistance, please call me at 259-881 !.
Sincerely,
HUGH w'ARREN, P.E.
Director oi Public Works
.
,'
Byt Don N.
