Theae are e:terior dembnts applied to the concrcte
building frame aod conaist of a totally independent structunl ayatem.
Shirway construction in Type II FR buildings, ia rcquired to be per Section 603.4
"constructed of reinforced concrotq iron or ated with treads and riaes of conctete,
iron or sted.^ We propoae that the stairways as deaigned, meet t6is criteria. The
columns supporting the stairways, 5:5:1/4" steel tube, Jao aupport a ateel canopy
inteoded sa wather protection. Regardless of whether the columna were
fireproofed with a 2 hour protcetion, if they were in danger of loaing their structural
' integrity due to heait in the stair are, the stairs would be unuaabla A continuous
interior concrete rrop would provide Iloor to Ooor ccess if both stairs were
destroyed by heat and flame.
The atcel irame in the elevator hoist way supports the elevator rrils, elevator landing
and roof of the hoist way. In a fire the elevator would not be in uae. The removal of
the entire devator hoist way, landings and roof, does not aRcet the building
atructure, or atructural frame.
These exterior dements are bounded by public ways or minimum yrds of 10 ket or
greater, and located adjacent to new fire hydrants installed for se by the Prking
Garage.
Plense call to discuss this further if you do not agree.
•9. The Standpipe locatiods shovn on sheet A40?, r403 and M04 do not meet the
requirement to reach, all azeas of the building with 130 feet of hose, Sec. 0-904.5.4, please
revise.
The standpipe locations have been coordinated by this olTice with Warren Brty of
the City of Everett Fire department. On March 18,1996 in a telep6one discussion,
we discussed the 130 foot distance problem when the standpipes were located in the
corners of the building, as prefemd by Mr. Bxty. He e:plined to ua that since we
are providing a Class I standpipe system, the Icetions he prekrnM are fine, and we
are not bounded by the 130 foot length. Pleasc confer with Mr. Bwty on this iaaua
We are happy to relocate the strndpipes if so required, and will locate them as
directed.
