APPENDIX A
FIELD EXPLORATION
E-8493-6
Our field expioration was performed on April 25, 2002. Subsurface conditions at the site
were explored by drilling two borings to a maximum exploration depth of twenty-one and
one-half 121.5) feet below existing grade. The borings for this study were drilled by
Grepory Drilling using a CME 45C, limitod access drill rig.
Approximate boring locations were estimated by pacing irom site features depicted on
the site plan provided by the cient. The elevaiions were estimated relative to one
another with an assumed base elevation of 100 feet. The locations and elevations of the
borings should be considered accuratn r,ly to tha degree implied by the method used.
These approximate locations are shown on the Boring Location Plan, Plate 2.
The field exploretion was continuously monitored by a geologist from our firm who
classified the soils encountered, maintained a log of each borig, obtained representative
samples, measureA proundwater levels, and observed pertinent site features. The
samples wero visually classified in accordance with the Unified Soil Classification System
that is presented on Plate A1, Legend. Representative soil samples were collected and
retumed to our laboratory lor funher exemination and testinp.
Lops ol the borings are presenled on Plates A2 throuph A5. The final logs represent our
interpretations o( the lield lops and the results ol the laboratory examination and tosts o1
tield samples. The stratHication lines on tho lops represent tho aproximete boundaries
between soil types. In actualry, the transitions may be more pradual.
Thr, borinps wore drilled usinp hollow stem aupers. In eAch borinp, Standard Panetration
Tesis (SPT) ware performed nt salected intervals in peneral accordance with ASTM Test
Desiqnation D-1588. The splil spoon samles wero drive with a ono hundred lorty
(1401 pound hammer (reely (allinp thirty 130) inches. The number o1 blows required to
1riv; the last twelvo (12) inches of penetration are called tho "N•valuo". This value heips
to characterize Ihe site soils and is used in our enpineerinp analyses. These results are
rtr, ordd on thr bonn lops at ihr. appropri,tc samplc depihs.
I.mih Cuilnl. inC.
