A15. Sharman ratt, Saleway Inc.
EPI Pmject No. 082783.1
August 5, 2D02
Ground Water Cleanup Level of 1,000 ug/L in ihe sample from MW-7 (i.e. 13,000 ug/L). The detecled
ethylbenzene and total xylenes concentralions in MW-7 and Unknown-1 exceeded the A4TCA Method A
Ground Water Cleanup Level of 700 Ng/L and 1,000 µg/L, respectively. The dislribution of benzene
concentrations is also indicated on Figure 3.
MTBE was delected in the sample from MW-8 at a concentration of 13 Fg/L, below lhe MTCA Method
A Ground Water Cleanup Level of 20 gIL. MTBE was not detected in any of the other samples,
however due to necessary sample dilution during analysis, the MDL was above the MTCA Method A
Ground Water Cleanup Level for the samples from MW-7 and Unknown-1. Previous sampling by
others of MW-7 tad detected concentrations of MTBE above the MTCA cleanup level.
Napthalene was detected in the sample irom MW-7 at a concentretion of 680 pg/L, above the MTCA
Methud A Ground Water Cleanup Level for total napthalenes (i.e. naphthalene, 1-Methylnaplhalene and
2-Methylnapthalene) of 160 pglL.
Other Volatile Organic Compounds detected in at leasl one of the ground water samples include
Acetone, n•propyl benzene, 1,3,5•Trimethylbenzene, and 1,2,4-Trimethylbenzene. The detected
acetone concentration was labeled by the laboralory as "result likely due fo laboratory contamination."
The remaining compounds are regufated as components of gasoline.
EPI also submitted several samples for the anaiysis o( common fuel additives, including methanol,
ethanol, tert-butanol, Ethyl Tertiary Butyl Ether, Tertiary Amyl Methyl Ether, 1,2 Dibromoethane, 1,2
Dichloroethane, and dissolved lead. None o( these compounds were detected in any of the samp'es
submitted for lhese analyses.
Laboratory analytical repoAs are included as Attachmenl A. Laboratory analytical resulls from previous
sampling by olhers are included as Atlachment B.
Conclusions
The findings of this baseline ground water qualiry assessment support the following conclusions:
• Elevated GRPH and benzene concentralions are present in ground water near, and down-
gradient oF the current underground storage tanks. It is reasonable to expecl that the ebserved
impacts extend beyond the eastern property boundary beneath Rucker Avenue and north
under the dispenser islands.
• Contaminants of concern in soil and ground water at the site include GRPH, MTBE, benzene,
toluene, ethylbenzene, total xylenes, and naphthalene. Remedial activilies to be conducted at
the site should have ihe objective oi attaining the MTCA Method A Cleanup Levels tor both soil
and ground vater. Failure to attain the Method A Soil Cleanup Levels throughout the site will
mcrease Qie remedial timeframe for ground water.
f N V 1 R O N N C N T A L P A 0. T N E R S I N C Page 3
