Mr. Ebert made a motion to approve the variance request but limiting
the height to 18 feet. There was no second to the motion.
After further discussion, Mr. Bennett again restated his motion to
approve the variance as requested. Mr. Ebert seconded the motion.
The vote was unanimous in favor of granting the variance.
VARIANCE GRANTED AS REQUESTED.
Item 4: Variance No. 35-88
Applicant: Marshall Batchelor
2714 Saratoga Lane
Everett, WA 98203
Location: 2714 Saratoga Lane
Variance Requested: From E.M.C. 19.42.040(B), Front Yards, which
requires that decks and porches in the front
yard be less than forty-two inches high and have
no roof covering, to allow an existing porch in
the front yard area to have a roof covering and
to allow a deck to be constructed that will be
eight feet high and extend four feet into the
front yard area.
Zoning: R-S, Single Family Suburban Residential
Pearl Maddy presented the staff report (see Variance File No. 35-88)
recommending that the variance be granted subject to conditions and
showed slides of the project.
Mr. Batchelor stated that the porch is on the north and the steps get
very slippery and two elderly people have slipped on the steps
recently, so they wish to cover the porch. His home sits back
further than the other homes on Saratoga Lane and even with the
variance he will still have a greater setback than the others. The
neighbor to the east cannot see the addition from their deck and
there is no visual impact to other homes on the street.
There was no further testimony for or against the variance.
Mr. Bennett moved that the variance be granted with the conditions as
recommended by Staff. Mrs. Buchea seconded the motion.
The vote was unanimous to grant the variance.
VARIANCE GRANTED.
