Please find attached the data from
Soiltest Farm Consuitants, Inc.
The data indicate relatively low nitrogen and potassium levels for the
soil. Bear in mind that this laboratory is geared to analyzing agricultural
soil. The recommendations for fertilizer application are for optimum crop
yield. Native plant communities, especially wetland ones, are adapted to
much lower nutrient levels, compared to agricultural crops.
Fertilizer applications were not included in the plans. We feel that
fertilizer application is neither necessary nor desirable for this project.
The organic matter is noted at 5.6 percent which is normal for native
upland soils in this area. This is to be expected as this material was
taken from an upland area forested with native trees and shrubs. Organic
content in wetland soils ranges widely but is usually higher, depending on ' ,
the type of wetiand. As wetiand soils are generally not available
(especially weed-free wetland soil), native upland soils are the next best
substitute. The vegetation removed from the excavated portions of the
project was chipped into a coarse mulcii. Some of this chipped material
- will be added to the top layer of soil as called for in the construction
1410larket Street• P.O.
