INSPECTION GEOTEST SERVICES INc.
REPORT 741 Merine Drive,Bellingham,WA 98225 Phone: 360.733.7318 Faz: 360.733.7418
PROJECT: Baldwin Retainfng Wdl JOB*: OS-05233
ADDRESS: 3206 Wave Drive, Everott,WA REPORT#: S12
CLIENT: Larry Bsldwin DATE: 11-7-08
CONTRACTOR:Client PAGE#: 1 of 1
WEATHER: PeRly Cloudy,55° PERMIT#:
INSPECTOR:JB
Inspection of: Allen Block Retainin Wall
GeoTest was on-site as requested to observe a surficial soil crack that has
developed behind the lower of 2 Allen Block Retaining Walls.
The crack is located 8' to 9' behind the wall face, is in plain view and is approximately
20' in IEngth. The crack ha opened several millimeters at maximum and the ground
surface appears to have dropped slightly to the wall side (east side) of the crack. The
area was probed witfi a 3/8" stainless steel soil probe, 2" to 8" penetrations were
observed.
Soil in the crack exhibited a similar consistency to soil in the surrounding area. No
deflection of the wall face blocks, which would be indicative of wall failure, was
apparent at this time. No bulging of soils or water seeps, indicative of a rotational
slope failure undercutting the wall, was apparent in front of the wall at this time. The
retaining wall backfill in front of the crack had issues with an over optimum moisture
content and the placement of less than ideal fill.
It is GeoTesPs opinion that the observed crack was the result of differential settlemert
between largely native soil to the west and backfill to the east. No eminent threat to
the wall stability is apparent at this time. GeoTest recommends that the client observe
the crack and wall condition regularly, especially after significant rain events. If
significant movement is observed, GeoTest should be contacted for further inspection
of wall stability.
Copies: Client ,
Submitted By .f9?
Granl Richardson
Technical Director
.nRn.u.y .M1p,.n.u....c. ..w..... .misreMsnallrol0erepoDuceCe.reptinlull witMUllFewiiltenepryorelo/GlOTesiSarvKes hK
^ TPe eGove lesl resulls relae only lo:o namCe loIttalim)IebteO Coppi9M E'1?93 GTS _
1
