i ' Sergeant Hamilton _ I
'I `Ro" L. J. Doughcrty ,
I o"T` September il, 1972 + *
'-z
sueccr RepoTt of Inveetigation oi Accident lrt rr oF vicecr. Evcarr, wnsHwcror+ . ; _ _
 Laundromat at 1831 Wetmore. '
 i
I II wae called Saturday morning, September 9. 1972, by Sergeant Hamilton of i
the Everett Police Department with tlc requeet that I aid them in making the i
determination of the fatality of Edward I. Weet, which ma• have been [rom I
; an electrical hock. I wae takeu lo the Laundromat by Detective Cuoper
where we met the owner, Lir. Howard S. Zeibell, and were cscorted to the
back room where the accident occurred. j
Examination of the scene:
I
i
The protective metal backs had been removed from the waehers because the
owner stYted he wae in the procese of maintenance repair on the machinee. I
Thie left the electric control panels and related electrical relayr and their
connect[one ezposed. T6e location ot the coinbox was in poeition where any-
one trytng to reach it from the back would have to maintain their balance by
hold[ng onto either the water piping or the frame ot the adjacent machlnes
wilh their right hand while reaching through the control wirinp, and relaye
wlth the lett hand and arm fully extended. It wae noted the bracket support- i
ing the presure ewitch with live exposed contacta wae bent down to about a I
i 45• angle from a heavy preesure. from an outaidc eource. The top of the
i drum housing howe evidence of something about the width of a man's fore-
Iarm having been in contact with it and rubbed off de duet. A heavy depoeit I
of dust remains around the eurroundtng area. The reseure awitch is in a
i direct line between the coinbox and the area of the drum where the dust wan i
removed. It was also noted that a person in thie poeition would not be able I
to eee the live contacta on the preseure switch. I
Concluton• I
In vtew of the evidence of the removed duet, the bent support brack.et of the
i pressure awitch and the live contacta wliich I verlfied, the victim had
' def{nitely been i contact wlth a voltage to ground of at least 120 volts.
Everything around the area that the victim would have graeped for balance
vc[th hte right hand was grounded. Thte would put hie heart in the path of
current flow whtch could be severe enough to cauae fibrilation or paralysie
Iof the heart mneclee.

I
I

i
i
I

I
