Based on
review of the referenced documents and the condidons encountered in the Seld, it is our
opinion that the proposed alternate method is acceptable from a geotechnical standpoint
The backfill shouid be rnmpacted to the requiremenu of struccural fill.
It has become apparent during rnnstncdon that it dces not appear to be possible to place
a foundadon drain adjacent to the bottom of the footing on two sides of elevator pit 3 as
the footing elevadon is approximately five feet lower than the adjacent footings. The project
plans indicate the foundadon drain is to drain away from this area, which is not practical
as it is the lowest footing elevation for the project. Given the subsurface conditions
encountered (no observed seepage)and that the ground surface in this area will be covered,
it is our opinion that the foundation drain can be placed at the grade necessary to achieve
flow, based on the adjacent footing elevations. However, if this is done, the ability of the
elevator pit foundation walls to support hydrostatic pressure on the lower five feet should
be verified.
1805•1361h PWce N.E.,Suite 101,Bdlevue,WasAinplon 98005
222 E.261h Slreet,Suite 101,Tacoma,Washinqlon 984119998
Bellevue(206)6433780 Seatlle(206)4691584 FAl((206)746-0Bfi0 Tacoma(206)2726608
