This
int...pzetetion was made at our Nednesday weekly meetinq and endorsed
5y Eoth the Inepection and the Fire tSarshal D.+partmenta. On May 3rd
an inspection vas made by Larry Vognold, Don Hutter. and John Farrens
of the existing building. A discusston of the complete building
was made at the May Stli mceting of both ctepartments. It is definitely
a life hazard building. On May Gth, :ohn Farrena called Mr. Ogden
to report the requirements of thc City :or the butlding. 7'he fol-
lwin9 are the requirumenta:
1. InsUll two new approved stair enclosures.
2. Sprinkle entire building.
7. Make elevator hatch one hocr.
1. The entire buildinq to be rewized eleelrically.
John Farzen■ ■tarted to tell him ihe rbove requirementa. He
started vith the first item (tvo nev stairs). Mr. Ogdr.n objected
end said it wes iossible to bring the building up to Cede and
that re could not require it.
Duzing th dlscussion of vheth,•r the City crould zequire certain
minimun requiremanta, Mr. Farrena atated that reqardleaa of vhether
the addition va built or not, w•e vere going to requize these
safety facilities to be done. Before he could euplain the rest of
tle zequirements, that. ihey vere becauae of life hazard reaeons
and thet our requirements would be sometime in the future, Mr. Ogden
hmq up.
Mz. Goldberg has been informed about some of these conditions some
time ago, and at that time he asked to wait until he built the
addition to correct these life hazard rnnditions.
The building is a fovr story building vith hasement and an attic
used !or storage. There ia only one open stair. Trtere are only
openinqe in che zear of the builiSg vhich would be used by
the Fire Department to enter the building to Eight fir.s. Sprinklers
are required where buildings co not have such openings on each floor.
We felt we vere giving Mr. Goldberg a very liberal intecpretation
of the Code, vhich is to his advantage by considering these as !wo
separate buildings rather than inte=pzet it as one building which
vovld require that the whole building be brought up to code.
l 3 %7 /7 /
