Box 61
Granite Falls, Wa. 98252
December 5, 1979
Mr. Ken Callahan
Building Director
City of Everett
City Hall-.
Everett, Wa. 98201
Dear Mr. Callahan,
This letter is a request to your department to approve an electrical
hookup by the P.U.D. to an existing structure at 3202 Wetmore, Everett, Wa.
This building has operated as a grocery store for many years, but recently
the electric meters were removed by the P.U.D. based on a conversation they
had with the current occupant, Jerry Haynes.
The City Clerk's records verify that: this building was operated as Lutz
Grocery until February 1967 when Leonard Johnson occupied the building. Mr.
Johnson's business license was ended at his request in March of 1978. One
month later the property was sold by Mr. Gordon Weiss to me; and, in February
1979, Mr. Jerry Haynes began his current operation. Mr. Haynes operated a
store selling grocery items and assorted articles by a posted schedule, albi-et
not on a daily basis, but with the authority of his city license.
The P.U.D. had previously sent me the power bills, since I had signed an
agreement with them to continue service. I requested that Mr. Haynes
asschange
the responsibility for the power bills which he did. q
of billing process that Mr. Haynes was informed that there was a substantial
transfer fee (he claimed it would have been $100.00); and, upon further
consideration of the volume of his business, Mr. Haynes decided he could not
afford the fee. lie cancelled his request for power, whereupon the P.U.D. re-
moved the meters.
Not only am I concerned about the reestablishment of power to the building,
but I w.i also concerned about the practice of a utility to cut off a user with-
out informing file proper owner. Tans to leave before the
The lease for Mr. Haynes expires shortly, and he p
month's end, and the prospective tenant wishes to establish a food co-op to assist
limited income, senior citizens and other paying members. It is hoped that the
building can be painted and prepared for use shortly after the first of the year.
The operators have had previous experience in this business at a building on
the north end of Maple Street, but they were forced to close when C.E.T.A. fun-
di.ng for personnel was cut.
In summary, the building has operated as a store, the City Clerk's records
verify that business was conducted a n this
there issite
through
tOnyt(even
hat withthough
continuedthe
lights have been disconnected),
power there will be an additional business started which will be a positive
addition for the neighborhood and public at large.
If you have further concerns about the building use or its history of
liscensure, will you please call me at 691-7987 or at my work number 691-7717._
Thank you for your assistance in this manner.
S cerely,
DEC 7 1979
Tame L.
