ROOF <br />Roof Ed�Eutension. On all roof edges except the front and back eaves of main roof <br />(which already have 5 3/4" overkiengs), frame out to provide 5 3/4" overhangs, making <br />unifortn overhangs all around. On eaves, sister on 2"x4" rafter tails. On gable ends, cut in <br />2"x4" lookouts and frame for faxia•and sn�t. 'trim out all new edges with cedar <br />plywood soffit and cedar fascia to match e�asting. Prime and paint fascia white beforo <br />instalGng. On eaves, so@'it may be attached directly to bottom of new rafter tails, so that it <br />will slope up to meet house wall above e�sting siding. Under inside edge of sot5t, nail <br />t"x2" or other trim (with bevef cut to 6t against siding under eaves), to close any gap <br />between soffit and siding. <br />At rear of house, at inside comer betwcen kitchen and laundry room, rebuild roof edge to <br />eliminate add-on shcd roof. West edge of main roof will extend over and butt against roof <br />of rEar addition. Thoroughly flash in this area to provide wamnty against leaks for life of <br />roofing. <br />Sidi Patch. At inside comer at rear of house, and along inside edges of new front <br />entrance roof, in small areas of house waL' exterior where roof framing is removed, fill in <br />any areas of incomplete siding with wncrete shingles to rt►atch existing. (New shingles <br />shall not contain asbestosJ Work stull be done without removing or disturbing existing <br />siding. Lap new shingles down over old. <br />Front Entrance Roof. At front entrance, remove all of existing cortugated fiberglass roof <br />and its supponing frami�g md omamental iron. Running out from on top of exisang top <br />plates of houx wrlls, freme roof with sligFt slope to shed water. Roof shall be of 2"x6", <br />l6" o.c., H.F. Ik2 and better (spanning approximately 9 ft.) extmding out to front as faz as <br />new roof edge of adjoining front gable end. Support rafters on 4"xI0" besm running <br />under full width of roof, with metal ties from beam to rafters. (Max;mum span of beam <br />will be 10 R.) Unda beam,'inatall clsar fir 4"x4" post on meal post base secured into <br />existing concrete porch 800r. Patch holes in concrete where omamental iron is rcmoved. <br />South edge of new roof s6all extmd approxinutcly 6" beyond south edge of concrae <br />porch below. Trim outside edgea with primed and painted I"x6" ced�r fascia. Close in <br />bottom of roof fi�areing with 1/4" ced�r plywood soffit. <br />C�' p�y Removal. On rear part of main roof, rertove brick chimney down to level of <br />ceiling joists, and fill in with.fiaming and with sheathing to align roof surface with <br />adjoining. <br />Tear-Off and Reroofina. On all of house roof but not on garage, tar off all roofrovering <br />down to spaced or soGd st�eathing. Note that original roof has four layers of rooSng: one <br />of wood shingles plus three of composirion. On all of roof wni�h has ao soGd sheathing, <br />install7/16" o.s.b. shrathing. At juncrion of original house with sou�h addition, inspect <br />roof after tear-ot% and report to owna and CHIIi advisor of any need for additional work <br />to provide new roof with wrface in one smooth plane, eGminating existing hump. Reflash <br />valleys wi!h metal or weave shingla according to Code. Refluh at 6replace chimney, <br />with new step and other bottom 9ashing, and with new top flashing imbedded in mortar. <br />(As part of a planned later pmject, chimney top will be rebuilt to replace spalled blocks.) <br />Install drip edge on all sloped roof edges. Install I S-Ib. felt and 3-tab, 25-yesr, Class A, <br />8berglass shingles, Pabco HO-25 or equal, color approved by owner to match existing as <br />closely as possible. Reflash around plumbing vents as needed to wartanty against leaks for <br />life of roofing. Provide owner with copy of 3-tab roofing wazranty. <br />. Ventilate roof according to Code, using Cor-A-Vent or equal continuous ridge vent on all <br />three ridges, plus gable-end orjack-type vents as naded to meet curtent Code. <br />
