The followinq guidelines represenf the
recommendallons of a TPI subcommiBee on
truss inafallaflon: •
L Always refer to framing plonz for proper location of trusses.
po not simply mstoll them "as they come oft the pile" Refer
to iruss elevaiion tlrawings lor propar locofion ot cantilever
and intenor bearings.
2 If a iruss is tlamagetl before erectiort obtain repatt or
replacemeM insiruciions from a quolitied truss tlesigner
prior to setting the truss. Reparts made on ihe ground ore
usually better and always easier.
J. Never alter any port of any fruss for any reasan wifhout
protessioral ativir.e. Cutting. drilling. or notching any
member without desiqner approval will desiroy the
sirucfural integrity of ihe truss antl voitl any expressed or
imPl warranfy.
4: Girtlers are irusses which carry oter trusses or relafively
large areas of roof or floor framing. Almost never wlll a
common truss (or even o double common) serva os a
girtler. If fhere is a quesfion about whether a giraer is
neetled, consult your tabricaior. •
5. Double girdeis ae commonplace. Even triple girdea are
someiimes requiretl. Moke sure mulhple member girders are
properly laminated per engineering specllicatlons.
6. Truss spacing shc Id be in accordance with ihe iruss desipn
Sometimes very ;mall aeviations trom desgned spacfnB --,
can create vei y big probiems. Seek protessbnol advice If
you need to c:rer any spacing.
7, Consfructici loads such as stacks of plywood• sheetrock. piles
of roofing, graval, or bncks should never ba P Nsses
before the are properly braced.
