Geotectuiicel Engineering Letter
3505 S6ore Avenue Deck Addition
Everott,Washington
May 2ti,2010
NGA File No.8271 l0
Page 7
Erosion Control and Slope ProtecUon Meuures
The erosion hazefd for the on-site soils is coosideczd high, but the actual hazud will be dependent on how
the sitc is gaded and how watcr is allowed to concentrate. Best Management Practices(BMPs)should be
used to control erosion. Areas dismrbed during conshuction should be protxted Crom erosion. Erosion
contrnl measurcs may include diverting surface w:der away from the stripped or disturbed arws. Silt
fences or straw balcs should be erecud to prcvent muddy water from leaving the site. Stockpila should
be covered with plas6c sheeting during wet weather. Distubed accas s6ould be planled as soon as '
practical end the vegetetion should be maintained until it is atablished. The erosion potential of areas not
stripped of vegetation should be low.
Protection of the setback and steep slope arcas should be perfomted es roquired by lhe City of Evcrett.
Spxifically, we cecommcnd that lhe setback etea end top of slope not be disturbed or modified through
plaament of eny fill or removal of t6e ezisting vegetadon. No material of any kind should be placed on
the slope or be allowed to reach the slope, such as excavation spoils, lawn clippiags, and other yard waste,
trash, and soil stockpiles. Ttees should not be cut down or removed from the slope unless a mitigetion
plan is developed, such as the replacement of vegetaGon for erosion protection. Replacement of
vegetation should be performed in accordance with Everett Municipal code. Any proposed development
within lhc sUback area, other than light dxks or patios, should be the subject of a specific geotcehnical
evaluation. Unda no circumstances should wata be allowed to concenhate on thelopes.
Site Preparatlon and Grading
We do not anticipale large scale grading for this project. Mer erosion control measures are implemented,
site propazation should consist of stripping eny topsoil or loose soils to expose medium dease or better
native soil in foundation and slab-on-grade areas. The sVipped materials s6ould be rcmoved from t6e site
or stockpiled for later use as landscaping fill. On1y vc.y limited amounta of material shwld be stceliled
on this site. Stockpiles should be kept away from the tep of the steep slope and setback azsas. Stockpiles
should bc covaed with plastic.
If the ground surface afier stripping should appear to be loosc,it should be compaceed to a non-yielding
condition. Arees observed to pump or weave during compaction should be reworked to suuctural fill
specifications or be over-excavated and replaced with swctuml fill or rock spalls.
