Roof dr;iins should hc tight-lined to dischargc
into the stortnwater collection sstem.
l 4.3 FOUNDATION SUPORT
1 4.3.1 General
\'.'c recommend that the structure be supponed om mventional isolaed and continuous sprcad
footines. To help mduce post-construction senlcment and bridEe over the soft nativc snils, footings
throuehout Ihe strucmre should be underlain by properly compaded structural fill as discussed in
r this section and in Section 4.'_. Tlie site should be prepared as discussed in Sections 4.2.2 and 4?.3.
I The wuuitable soils in the non-preloaded arca and the loose/sofi soils in thc southwcst corncr of thc
building footprint should be removed and mplaced vi(h properly compacted sinctural fill.
( Ye rccommend that the suberade soils below the footings be ovcrecavated and/or
reompacted to help reduce difiercntial settlemenu due to the variably compactcd fill at the site.
IPor planning purposes,we recommend thal dtc foo[ing subgrade arcas be prepamd as follo-s:
1. All footings located n the old overburden fill that vas prcloaded should be orerescavated at
Icast 3 fect below the bottom of ihe footings. Tlic exposed surface should be evaluated and iP
suitable it should be compacted to at least 90 percent MDD, per ASTM D 1557. If the
subgrade soils are competent at [hat depUi, no additional overcac3vation will be necessary. If
the subgrade soils arc not competent at an oerexcavation depth of 3 feet, additional
overexcava[ion ill be required. 7iie additional overeacavation can be deepened to a
maximum depth of 4 fect. The oerecavation zone should extend at least 3 feet beyond all
edges of the footings. The ecavation should be backfilled with structural fill compacted to at
Ieast 95 percent MDD. The footings that require this procedure include the west perimeter
( footing from A-]0 to A-12, north perimeter footing from A-12 to L-12, east perimeter footing
from L-12 to L-I1, In addition, the following column footings should be prepared in this
Imanner. (1) all column foot;ngs along gridlines 9, 10, 1 I, and 12 (ercept A-9, B-9, E-9, K-9,
and L-9 to L-] 1, and (2) culumn footings at A-5 to A-8, B_5 to 3-S, GS to C-8. Colmnn
footings should be overexcarated at Ieast 3 fect or%,the footing width, whichever is deeper.
' 2. All other footing excavations, whether perimeter or column, should be eacaated to the planned
footing subgrade elevation and the exposed subgrade surface should bc recompacted to ai least
I95 percent MDD per ASTM D I557.

 GcuEngineers Z
File No. 7584.(q2-W-t 1301050101
