Stcel posts shall consist of cither si-r.e No. G rebar or larger, ASTM A <br />120 stcel pipe with a minimum diameter of I-inch, U, T, L, or C shape <br />slccl posts with a minimum wcighl of 1.35 Ibs./R. or other stecl posts <br />having equivalent strength and bending resistance to the post sizes <br />listed. The spacing of the support posts shall be a maximum of 6 fcct. <br />Fence back-up support, if useJ, shall consist of stecl wire with a <br />mlKimum mesh spacing of 2 inches, or a prefabricated polymeric <br />mesh. Thc strength of thc wire or polymcric mesh shall be equivalem <br />to or greater thm� I80 Ibs. grab tensilc strength. Thc polymeric mesh <br />must bc as resistant to ultraviolct cadiation as the gcotcxtilc it suppons. <br />• Sili (ence installation using the slicing method specification details <br />follo��•. Refer to Figure 4.20 for slicing method details. <br />The base of both end posts must bc at least 2 to 4 inchcs above the top <br />o(the silt fence fabric on the middle posts for ditch checks to drain <br />praperly. Use a hand Icvel or string Icvel, if neccssary, to mark basc <br />points bc(orc insuillation. <br />Install pos�s 3 to 4 fect apart in critical retention arcas and 6 ta 7 fcet <br />apart in standard applications. <br />Install posts 24 inches deep on the do«�nstrcam side of the silt Ience, <br />and as closc as possible to the fabric, enabling posts to suppon the <br />fabric fram upstrcam wa�cr pressure. <br />Insiall posts ���ith thc nippfcs facing away from thc silt fcncc fabric. <br />Att�ch thc fabric to cach post with three ties, all spaced ��•idiin the top <br />S inches of the fabric. Auach cach tic diagonally 45 degrces through <br />Ihe fabric, with exh puncture at Ieast I inch vertically apart. In <br />addition, cach tic should bc positioncd to hang on a post nipplc when <br />tightcning m prcvcnt sagging. <br />Wrap approximatcly 6 inchcs of fabric :�round thc cnd pusts and sccurc <br />with 3 tics. <br />No morc �han Za inchcs of a 3G-inch fabric is allo���cd abovc ground <br />Icvcl. <br />Thc ropc lock syslcm must bc uscd in :ill ditch chcck applications. <br />Thc inslnll:uion should lic chccked mid corrccicd for any dcviation <br />before compaction. Use a(lat•bladed shovel to iuck fabric deeper into <br />thc ground i( ncccssary. <br />Compaciion is vitall}' importanl for c(lcclivc resulls.
