I
ATTN: Ben Edwards
Re: Alterations to Rainier Hall
Everett Community College
IIuildiig Pernit No. 17254
Dear t4r. Edwards:
As a condition of occupancy, your department requested that
we lower the newly installed drinking fountan n the main
corridor of Rainier Aall to facilitate handicatped ue.
Our vorking drawings called for a clear space to the bottom
of tlie drinking fountain from the floor of 27 inches as required
by tlie "B3rrier Free" code. Th contractor installed the
drinking foutitain at the designed clearance. However, the
drinking fountain base was thicker than anticipated and, as
a result, the rim height is 36 ' instead of the recommended 34" .
If w lower the fountain to 34" , we shall no lonqer be able
to pass a wheel chair beneath the dririking fountain.
In view of the situation, we recommend that a disposable
cup dispenser be installed adjacent to the drinking fountain
to proviQe for those handicapped individuals who cannot use
the fountain because of the 36" r.im height.
This alternative will greatly aid the college in its scheduled
usage of the new classroom area and alleviate the difficulties
invoived in lowering this fuuntain at this time. We would
sincerely appreciate your consideration of this alter ative.
Thank ou.
Sincerel.y yours, ,t(
/ ..
Philip R.
