I'1111- r As we discussed on the telephone the other day, the Everett School District would like to receive a slight variance in the barrier-free code requirements at Eisenhower Middle School, This project primarily involves replacement of domestic water supply piping. To access this piping in restrooms, we called for removal and reinstallation of the old toilet partitions;however, their condition has been deemed too you for rein/lallation. The School District has decided,therefore,to install new partitions_ In addition in four of the restrooms, they have decided to make slight improvements for use by the handicapped. This involves eliminating a water closet in each restroom and creating approximately 5'-O"by 4'-6" stalls for use by the disabled. We are also reinstalling lavatories,urinals,and accessories to improve their accessibility. One of the cxiF.ting water closets is moat 1W' crow(the side wall,per the.-ciode. The other three are 15 to 16"from the side wall. The cost of relocating the waste lines for these would he high. We would like to leave them as is. I believe it is important to note that,in a middle school,disabled students would likely have assistance from a teaehot or fellow student. The School District anticipates that,within 5 iu 10 years,a major renovation would occur at this facility. Such a project would then address all accessibility issues.
