4
Summary and Conclusion
The Everett Police Department currently has important equipment needs in the Computer Forensics and
Video Forensics division. A networked, efficient and effective system must be established, and maintained,
which will allow the Department's forensic technicians to adequately collect, process, store, retrieve,
archive and back-up critical forensic data which may contribute to investigations and/or provide evidence
which must be secured, documented and produced for court proceedings. It has also been determined that
there are current needs for creating a system to capture and store audio and video associated with critical
interactions that occur in the Police Department polygraph administration area and in various interview
areas that may be utilized by Police Officers and Detectives.
Insufficient resources are currently available, from the City of Everett budget, to fund the software,
equipment and training needed to implement the use of these technology applications. Utilization of
available Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant funds, allocated for the City of Everett, to
purchase this technology has the potential to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the Patrol,
Detective and Digital Forensic units that provide law enforcement and other related services to the citizens
of the City of Everett.
19
