•
BUDGET NARRATIVE
4
Introduction
The budget information for the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance grant is presented by project
component areas. Funding is sought for the purchase and implementation of equipment and software
technology applications in the areas of computer and digital forensic data collection, processing, networked
storage, retrieval, archiving and back-up. Additional funding is sought for implementation of equipment
and technology needed to provide secure, reliable recording, storage and retrieval of audio and video
records of interactions which take place in the Department's polygraph area and in additional designated
interview areas.
Computer and Video/Digital Forensics
The first project element proposed is the purchase of several hardware/software components which,
together, will establish an integrated computer/digital forensics networked system. The first component is a
Forensic Recovery of Evidence Device (FRED). The total cost of this device, including hardware and
software, is $7,049.00. The second component is a Master Imaging System Computer (MIS) for
video/digital forensics. The total cost of this component, including both hardware and software, is
$6,081.00. Other components include an HP ProLiant DL380 G5 SATA storage server with four (4) TB of
disc storage, at a cost of $16,500.00 and an HP StorageWorks MSL2024 Ultrium Tape Library which costs
$12,500.00.
Audio/Video Recording of Polygraph and Interview Areas
The second major element of the current grant funding proposal is establishment of secure and reliable
audio and video recording of interactions which occur in the Department's polygraph examination area and
the various department designated interview areas. It is estimated that the cost to establish this capability
will be $42,625.00. 2
