Landscaping. The Zoning Code contains regulations for perimeter and parking lot
landscaping. It does not have regulations for landscaping the interior of multiple family
dwelling sites. These guidelines contain suggestions and examples of landscape treatments
that can provide a quality residential setting for residents and surrounding neighborhoods.
These guidelines can also be used to design landscape plans that meet the perimeter
landscaping requirements of the Zoning Code.
Provide landscape features, including plant materials and other non-plant materials,
which create an attractive use of open space areas, streetscape improvements, and
required setback areas. Examples include the following:
• Soften the form of the building by screening blank walls and fences, terracing
retaining walls, and use of foundation planting.
• Provide distinctive planting for open areas created by building modulation.
• Use raised planters, courtyards, fountains or other non-plant materials in combination
with plants.
• Use of appropriate plant selection for the space in which it is planted, especially in
small or narrow spaces, in shady areas, or on slopes.
• Site and design storm water facilities to appear as a positive landscape feature rather
than an attractive nuisance for children, and design so as not to impede pedestrian
circulation.
• Landscaping on top of parking decks or for roof top gardens will require irrigation
and special plant selection for the site.
 1
WM
I - C ILr -
'W
`m. .moi
This site uses landscaping to provide natural access control and
privacy as well as attractive common areas.
