WHEREAS, Scoop Jackson was an early and vigorous opponent of Senator Joe McCarthy's red- <br /> baiting, a strong proponent of labor and civil rights, and dating back to the Truman <br /> Administration, a vocal advocate for Universal Health Care; and <br /> WHEREAS,Henry M. Jackson also played an instrumental role in the creation of Naval Station <br /> Everett,Naval Air Station Whidbey Island,Naval Base Kitsap (the Bangor Naval Submarine <br /> Base), and Madigan Army Medical Center; and <br /> WHEREAS,the centennial of the birth of Everett native,United States Senator Henry M. <br /> "Scoop" Jackson, should be honored by true friends of human rights and democracy nationwide <br /> and all across the globe; <br /> NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND EVERETT CITY <br /> COUNCIL THAT: <br /> The city of Everett join the entire state of Washington in celebrating the centennial of the birth of <br /> Senator Henry M.
