1I
There could be hybrid options that combine and vary the above options. -rhe variations could be
covers that are slabs. beams or geonets, and lightweight fills using light aggregate or Styrofoam.
Combinations could be slabs With soil removed from under them or slabs over lightweight till.
Task 70400 — Review Meetings
Regular e-171ail communications and telephone discussions are held with the City to ensure the
niost technically feasible and cost-effective pipeline protection. Two meetings were held: one in
the URS office and one in the City office. The URS points of contact are Messrs. Urlich and Hari.
Task 70500: 'I'echnical Memorandum:
URS will prepare a technical memorandum that will summarize the available information,
describe the Phase 4 engineering analyses, present the allowable till heights that will not impact
the pipelines. and describe the conceptuaklevel mitigation alternatives and cost estimates. Some
typical cross-section(s) and figures will be prepared and included in the memorandum.
An e-mail with attached summary tables of the allowable fill heights was submitted to the City on
October 21. ?007. A meeting was held on October 25 to discuss the allowable till heights and
new pipeline information obtained by the City, and the allowable fill heights were revised. A
draft memorandum on the conceptual -level pipeline protection alternatives and cost estimates was
submitted to the City during the October 29 meeting, and will be finalized.
Task 70600: Undefined Services
As it is difficult to accurately predict all issues that may arise through the above tasks. Task
70400 is added to provide a contingency fund for unanticipated and unidentified work, and is
intended to allow payment to URS under this contract for scope changes that the City determines
to be necessary. funds for this task will not be used without prior written approval from the City.
Ci"CY FURNISHED DATA
The City has furnished URS with geotechnical data from previous projects, none of which are
close to the site, and pipeline plan and profile drawings, structural drawings and cut sheets_ URS
considers that it would be prudent to complete a geotechnical investigation along the central and
north part of the proposed developnnent area.
SCREDUL.E AND BUDGET
URS will complete Phase 4 on a time and material basis as an amendment to the current 36'x'
Street Sewer Protection Project contract between the City and URS, dated September 25, 2006.
The enginccrino fee for the work is estimated to be approximately $48,000 as shown on the
attached cost estimate spreadsheet.
URS completed prelinninary engineering .work by November 2, 2007, and provided preliminary
findings on October 19 and a draft technical memorandum on October 29. An updated draft
technical memorandum with cost estinnates will be submitted shortly.
URS
10
Page 10 of' 10
