4 <br /> RESOLUTION NO. <br /> A RESOLUTION accepting the Snohomish Health District's invitation to 'ecome a <br /> Healthy Communities Project site. <br /> WHEREAS, obesity is nationally recognized as a growing health concern; and <br /> WHEREAS, obesity causes between 100,000 and 300,000 deaths annually in the <br /> United States, including those caused by diseases that are associated with obesity; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Healthy Communities Project works with city and community leaders <br /> on a public, consensus-driven project to address obesity trends and the resulting <br /> chronic diseases; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Snohomish Health District selected Everett as the third Healthy <br /> Communities site based on demonstrated significant readiness; and <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Everett is committed to promoting healthy lifestyles among our <br /> diverse and rapidly growing population; and <br /> WHEREAS, the partnership would coincide with ongoing efforts such as the city's parks <br /> strategic plan and downtown plan to make Everett a healthier community; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Healthy Communities Project is a unique opportunity for Everett to <br /> become a leader in promoting healthy lifestyles; and <br /> WHEREAS, Snohomish Health District educators will help facilitate throughout each <br /> stage of the process, culminating in a community action plan focusing on increased <br /> physical activity and nutrition opportunities to city residents; <br /> NOW THEREFORE, be it resolved by the Mayor and City Council of the City of <br /> Everett: <br /> We will engage in a Healthy Communities Project with the Snohomish Health District. <br /> Councilperson Introducing the Resolution <br />
