7
Meeting time options were discussed. Mary Jane prefers workshops be held 5pm
– 7pm quarterly, with fewer topics necessary in 2008 than in 2007. Various
efficiency topics will be addressed at the retreat. Since the scheduled time of
meetings brought challenges to all commissioners, it was decided to table this
decision until joined by new members in 2008.
Des suggested we establish the meeting times for the first quarter, then
reconsider when the new members come on board. Paul suggested the first
meeting in January could be 6:00-7:30 with the following retreat, and changes
could be considered.
Dianne motioned to establish a monthly two-hour meeting with up to a two-hour
workshop quarterly in February, May, August and November at Spruce Hall.
Seconded by Des. All in favor, no opposition.
LIONS PARK MASTER PLAN UPDATE—John Petersen presented the Lions
Park Master plan using a color handout as well as a two-page narrative.
Estimated cost from CIP3 is still being determined. Dianne asked about trail
surface, which John replied that it will be something like "gravel pave". The
paths are not present at this time, and a restroom will not be included. Paul
added that this concept successfully utilizes input from the neighborhood and
commission members and asks for a recommendation for adoption.
Des appreciates the open space as well as staff and neighborhood input. He
stressed concern regarding amount of pathways. Paul explained we will review
the surface types available and reminded members that trails are important to the
community. Dianne asked about the number of parking spaces, and John
explained that the Boys and Girls Club would be able to use them as well.
Kathryn motioned to recommend approval of Lions Park Master Plan to city
council, seconded by Dianne. No opposition.
Therefore, SEPA work will conclude, and then go to council for approval.
SIGNAGE AND MAPS PROGRAMS—Jeff Price provided handouts of a
PowerPoint presentation explaining our upcoming Maps and Signage program.
Plan is covered in appendix A of the strategic plan, and is expected to be
completed in 2008. Mary Jane asked if we're working with the city to be
consistent, Paul replied our informational and marketing component is reviewed
by administration and all information is consistent and supportive of city
practices.
John complimented his staff regarding the Forest Park sign repair that resulted in
our staff successfully repairing the sign for a substantial cost savings. Paul
added that citizen comments regarding Legion Park have been very positive.
25
