In order to comply with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Pretreatment <br /> Streamlining Rule which modified 40 CFR Sections 9, 122 and 403 in October 2005, the City must update its <br /> wastewater pretreatment regulations. The attached Ordinance contains updated regulations relating to <br /> dischargers of wastewater containing fats, oils and greases. The intent of the Ordinance is to not only update <br /> these regulations so as to come into compliance with the federal Pretreatment Streamlining Rule,but also to <br /> develop a more Comprehensive yet flexible grease control program. Both the Washington State Department <br /> of Ecology and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region X have reviewed and approved the <br /> attached Grease Control ordinance. <br /> RECOMMENDATION(Exact action requested of Council): <br /> Adopt an Ordinance relating to uniform requirements for users of the Publicly Owned Treatment Works <br /> (POTW) for the City of Everett, adding a new chapter to Everett Municipal Code Title 14, Water and <br /> Sewers, and repealing section 2.8 B. of Ordinance 2034-95 (EMC 14.40.120) as amended by Ordinance <br /> 2247-97, section 2 (EMC 14.40.120),which may be referred to as the"Grease Control Ordinance." <br /> R h <br /> 135 <br />
