ZltIjc tCttp of Etwrtt <br /> PROCLAMATION <br /> WHEREAS, through his research, writing and relationships with the local leaders, Jim <br /> Haley has chronicled a broad spectrum of life and change in Everett over four-plus <br /> decades; and <br /> WHEREAS, his coverage of community growth, change and maturation spanned <br /> economic downturn and renewal, life changing drama and the wind shears of political <br /> turbulence; and <br /> WHEREAS, throughout his career, Jim's by-lines were widely read and universally <br /> respected; and <br /> WHEREAS, as a reporter for The Herald he teamed his word-craft with curiosity, <br /> intensity, sensitivity and an easy going, at times disarming, style; and <br /> WHEREAS, while his articles provided the grist for discussion and debate, they <br /> embodied a richly deserved reputation for straightforward, objective and consistent <br /> reporting; and <br /> WHEREAS, with his iconic presence in the halls of government, the decks of ships, <br /> factory floors and rain-slick streets came his signature greeting of'How's your bod?" <br /> punctuated with "is there anything else I should ask?" <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ray Stephanson, Mayor of the City of Everett, do hereby <br /> proclaim August 6, 2008, as <br /> JIM HALEY DAY <br /> in the City of Everett, in recognition of the 42-year body of work he compiled and <br /> applaud his dedication, commitment and professionalism in pursuit of fair and <br /> balanced reporting of"Our Times" <br /> Signed this 6th day of August 2008. <br /> Mayor Ray Stephanson <br />
