RESOLUTION NO. 4 5 31 A RESOLUTION In Recognition of the Accomplishments of Washington State University Football Coach and Everett native Mike Price WHEREAS, Mike Price is a graduate of Everett High School and also attended Everett Community College; and WHEREAS, Mike Price has gone on to become a successful football coach in the college football coaching ranks; and WHEREAS, in his current coaching job with Washington State University, Coach Price has led the Cougars to appearances in post-season bowl games; and WHEREAS, this season, Washington State University finished with a 10-1 regular- season record, a top-10 national ranking, and a trip to the Rose Bowl for the first time in 67 years; and WHEREAS, this litany of 1997 accomplishments has helped Coach Price earn 1997 national college football Coach of the Year honors from several organizations, including the prestigious Sporting News coach-of-the-year selection; and WHEREAS, just as importantly, Coach Price has a well-deserved reputation for emphasizing the vital importance of education and college degrees for his players, who in turn have an excellent track record in pursuing their education and completing their degrees; and WHEREAS, through his accomplishments on the college football field, his attention to the academic future of his young men off the field, and his exemplary conduct in the public eye, Mike Price has been an outstanding ambassador for the City of Everett and Washington State University. NOW THEREFORE, the Mayor and City Council of the City of Everett recognize Mike Price and his Washington State "Cougar" football team for their outstanding football accomplishment and further express appreciation and congratulations to Everett native Mike Price and salute him for taking his team to the Rose Bowl for their first appearance in nearly seven decades.
