RESOLUTION NO. #5� .y <br /> A Resolution in Support of Mayor Ed Hansen's Candidacy for <br /> Election to Vice President of the Association of Washington Cities <br /> (AWC) <br /> WHEREAS, as a result of statewide municipal election outcomes last <br /> November, the Association of Washington Cities (AWC) must select new Executive <br /> Committee officers for its Board of Directors; and <br /> WHEREAS, one of these officer positions involves the Vice Presidency of the <br /> AWC Board; and <br /> WHEREAS, the AWC Board, on which Everett Mayor Ed Hansen serves as a <br /> District 8 representative, is expected to discuss these officer positions at its meeting of <br /> December 11, 1997, in Sea-Tac; and <br /> WHEREAS, Mayor Hansen has ably served on the AWC Board and the <br /> Board's legislative committee for the last several years as well as serving on other <br /> AWC panels such as a Growth Management sounding board, ad hoc annexation <br /> committee, etc.; and <br /> WHEREAS, Mayor Hansen also has served in a number of regional leadership <br /> capacities, including his current positions as a Board member of both the Puget Sound <br /> Regional Council and the Central Puget Sound Regional Transit Authority (RTA); and <br /> WHEREAS, Mayor Hansen brings a number of state leadership positions and <br /> qualities to the fore, including a seat on behalf of cities on the State Land Use Study <br /> Commission, a seat representing cities on the House Government Administration <br /> Subcommittee on Local Government Financing, and an active record of participation on <br /> critical state issues such as transportation funding, water needs for growth, etc.; and <br /> WHEREAS, Mayor Hansen additionally brings federal expertise and stature to <br /> the AWC process, gained through previous work as a legislative assistant to the late <br /> Senator Henry M. "Scoop" Jackson, current standing as a municipal representative on a <br /> committee dealing with NAFTA issues, and knowledge gained through prior experience <br /> as attorney for the Snohomish County PUD and Port of Everett; and <br />
