GTE workers walk in Kasch Park for exercise breaks. Safe pedestrian crossings to nature trails
in subarea#3 would also meet this goal. For residents within the subarea, the long, straight roads
and accompanying development are monotonous and uninteresting. The development of linear
parks with trails would add more park-like elements to this subarea. To avoid further problems,
land should be purchased to offer parking at trail heads without impacting the neighborhoods.
Linear parks could also tie neighborhoods together, giving the subarea more character as a
whole. Trails should link to the Snohomish County system, as half of this subarea is currently
unincorporated.
Interpretive trails
* Develop an interpretive trail to the Kasch Park bog.
Bicycle/pedestrian trails
* Provide barriers or other additional protection to bicyclists/pedestrians along Evergreen
Way and Everett Mall Way.
* Develop bicycle/pedestrian lanes along unused SW 108th right-of-way from 3rd Avenue
SE to Holly Drive.
* Develop a loop trail connecting Kasch Park to W.E. Hall Park, extending south along
18th Avenue West and Dakota Way, until it intersects Holly Drive. Bicycle lane or
widened shoulders could be developed along Holly Drive south until it reaches Airport
Way, a designated trail for its entire length. The loop should be completed by the road
connecting back to Kasch Park. Access trails from neighboring industries should be
pursued, to provide convenient worker access to the loop.
* Establish a north-south bicycle/pedestrian route on 3rd Avenue West and/or 4th Avenue
West from 112th Street SW to West Casino Road.
* Provide safe connections between the junior and senior high schools to the Everett Mall
and surrounding commercial areas.
* Incorporate street tree plantings with trails to provide linear parks.
W:\PLANNING\TRAILS\COMP96.DOC 20
