GEOTECHNIC/L ENGINEERING STUDY
Susan and Thomas Zakos E-10138
Auyust 20, 2002 Page 9
If slopes of this inclination, or flatter, cannot be censtructed, temporary shoring may be
necessary. Shoring will lielp protect against slope or excavation collapse, and will provide
protection to workers in the excavation. If temporary shoring is required, we will be
available to provide slioring design criteria.
Permanent cut and !ili slopes sliould be inclined no s:eeper tlian 2H:1 V. Cut slopes slould
be observed by ECI during excavation to varify that conditions are as anticipated.
Suppiementary recommendatfons can tfien be developed, if needed, to improve stability,
includin (lattening of slopes or installation of surface or subsurface drains.
Permanently exposed slopes should be seeded with an appropriate species of vgetation to
reduce erosion and improve stabilit; uf the surficial layer of scil.
Site Drainaqe
As part of the site stabilization process. potential sources of surface or near surface water
around the perimeter of the residence should be intercepted and diverted, Permanent
grades sliould be establislied to direct surface water away from tlie existing residence and
top cf slope toward an approved catchment area.
Final site grades must allow for drainaye away from slopes and existing and proposed
structures. The groud should be sloped at a gradient of 3 percent for a distance of a;
least ten (10) feet away from residence deck supports, and retainin, wall.
LIMITATIONS
This report has been prepared for spec ric applicatio i to this project only and in a manner
consistent with that Ievel of care and skill ordinarily exercised by other members of ti+e
profession currently practicing under similar conditions in this area for the exclusive use of
Susan and Thomas Zakos and their representatives. No warranty, expressed or implied, is
made. This report, in its entirety, should be induded in the project contract douments for
the intormation ot the con:ractor.
Our recommendations and conclusions are baed on tfie site materials observed, selective
laboratory testing and engineering analyses, and our experience and engineering judgment.
The conclusions and recommendations are professional opinions de!ived in a manner
COI1JIJtent vitli tfat Icvel of care and ekill ordinarily exercied by other members of the
profession c.irrently practicing under similar conditions in this area. No varranty is
expressed or implied.
Eorth Criisullant5. In.
