Ir order to provide adequate spacing and filling in of the vegetation, I expect that the final number and location of the plants�vill vary somewhat from the plan. The Mahonia and Vaccinium tan be interchanged as desired—they are of similar size and are both evergreen. The Vibumum and Ribes can be interchanged as well as they perform similar functions in this planting. Plants are best planted in early spring as they become available—this way they can begin the process of establishment while the weather is cool and wet.They will need somr- additional summer irrigation the first year.The irrigation needs are best determined by checking the top 1 %:" of soil—if it is dry to this depth then apply%"-1" of water. Plants should be checked weekly througl?out the summer. In the second season they will have rooted sufficienily and will do well unless the summer is unusually hot and dry then they should receive additional water.
