Haglund, Director of Utilities
FRo.!✓1oy VanDerVleersche, Water Supt. & Craig Thompson,
DATE August 22, 1977
SUBJECT FAXIILY DENTAL CLIDIIC ICJ
CITY OF .EVERETT.
I -- v I L// 4
WATER:
Sewer Supt.
EVERETT. WASHINGTON
were-t
The original plan was to extend the water service from the 8" cast iron main on
Colby Avenue. We were asked later about the possibility of making the service
connection off of the 2" dead end main on Wetmore Avenue. We ran a -flow check
on the 2" at Wetmore Avenue and can produce 40 gallons per minute with a 20 psi
residual. I called Ken Callahan and explained the situation. His response was
that the Clinic would not require very much water and that a Wetmore Avenue
connection vrould be adequate. The ut' ". d ^' " adequate. ali1y ui aWing shows a a service line to the
Clinic. This would indicate that their requirements might be greater than expected,
.in which case a connection on Colby would be in order. Our concern is that we not
lower pressures in the 2" below acceptable limits. If a W3" service will provide an
adequate water supply to the Clinic, the Wetmore Avenue connection would probably
suffice, but if a larger service is required, we would recommend the Colby connection.
SEWERS:
The basic plan presented by the Architects would be an acceptable second choice
to me except that the proposed 6" line from the manhole to the Clinic would be
considered a side sewer. and as such no stub outs for other side sewers would be
allowed. In addition, the side sewer has to maintain a depth of at least 5 feet
within the right of way. Also, all side sewer stub outs must be 6" diameter pipe.
My first choice and perhaps the least costly would be as John has suggested with
an additional manhole at the end of the right of way and the extension of the 8" main
to that point. Due to the topography of the area, this alternative would allow for
constructing the line at less depth than has been proposed. It «o uld also allow the
connection of McDonald's to this main if they chose (McDonald's has a long private
side sewer to Colby which is fairly flat and get plugged with grease qu` - often. )
Another benefit is that it would shorten the length of side sewer for us maintain
thereby reducing the cost to us of determining if side sewer plugs are within the
right of way or not.
I presume that Engineering will be requiring more design information such as
profiles.
I
l
 AUG 2 •F lsn : D Grry..01_..EVCRF
EnBinerring Dept.
