- ' City of Everett
. • Go Ron and Kelly Knic;ger
August 22, 2U07
. Page 8
Ideally, structural fill, which is to be placed in wet weather, should consist f a
granular soil having no more than five (5) percent silt or clay particles. The perce, itage
of particles passing the No. 200 cave should be measured from thpt portion of the soil
passing the three-quarter-inch sieve.
The use of"some" on-site soils for fil! material mav be acceotable if the upper
organic materials are segregated and moisture contents are monitored by engineering
inspection.
DRAINAGE CONTROLS:
No drainage problems were evident with the existing Krueger residence and
overall property. The new house addition shall comply with City of Edmonds
requirements for gutters, downspouts and tie-in to the existing storm water system.
Portions of the Kruecr property and lawn area at the south and southwest did
reveal slight"sucial spongness" due to recent rains. This engineer recommends that
additional French drains and improved footing drains be installed during the house
addition and wine cellar project, subject to geotechnical inspections.
CONCRETE:
All foundation corcrete (footings, stem walls, slabs, any retaining walls, etc.)
shall have a minimum cement content of 5-1/2 sacks per cubic yard of concrete mix.
PROXIMITY TO SOUTHERLY SLOPE:
The proposed house addition project and lower evel wine cellar do not pose any
geotechnical haza-d to the nearby southerly drainage swale. As stated, geotechnical
recommendations by this engineeare required to verify proper complianci wi±h the
recommendations of this report.
INSPECTIONS:
The recommendations of this report are ctnly valid when key geotechnical
aspects are inspected by this enqineer durinq construction:
• Soil cuts
. Support of ex'ssting house foundation during excavation
. Foundation sub-grade verification
• Any retaining wall, or rockery placement
. Any fill placement
. Subsurface drainage installation
/'2.
