Utilizing a large dozer (DO), the contractor spread recently placed/stuckpiledhcrmed
imported soils from the Highway 9 widening site (bluish gray SILT to brownish gray silty SAND with few gravels) into an approximately .5.1'
loose lift and compacted the material via large vibratory roller. The compacted material was observed to be unyielding under the continue([
wheel weight of truck/trailer assemblies. Further, the compacted soil was probed, with the full weight of the observer on a .5" diameter steel
f-probe, and proved fimt/unyielding with average pencimtions of I". A series of in place density tests were conducted to con Firm the spccif ed
minimum compaction (95% ASTM 1557). The contractor was notified of all density results listed below. The contractor noted that some areas
of fill near the cast end of the proposed disposal area appeared wet upon import. These areas, the contractor noted, would be further aerated to
allncar optimum moisture condition before being compacted.
