Utilizing a large dozer (D6), the contractor spread recently placed/stockpiled/aerated
imported soils front the Highway 9 widening site (bluish gray SILT to brownish gray silty SAND with few gravels) into an approximatcly.5-I'
loose lift and compacted the material via large vibratory roller. The compacted material was observed to be unyielding under the continued
wheel weight of truck/trailer assemblies. Further, the compacted soil was probed, with the full weight of the observer on a .5" diameter steel
T-probe, and proved firntiunyielding with average penetrations of 1-2". A series of in place density tests were conducted to confirm the specified
minimum compaction (95%ASTM 1557). The contractor was notified of all density results listed below.
