Soils in all othcr locotions on-sic wcrc dctcrmincd o bc non-hydric bascd on soil marix chroma
colors of 2 or highcr in thc "B"!oriron and thc lack of rcdoximorphic features.
Veetalion. The vcgctation in Wetland A was dominated by reeJ canarygrass (Appendix A). Red
alder, westem reJ cedar, black cottomvood, ]limalayan blac!<berry, and salmonberry are present in
varying amou s along Aie wctland perimetcr. All of these plants, except Fiimalayan blackbcrry,
have an indicator status ofAC or FACW. Thcrefore, hydrophytic vegetation was dctermined to
bc prescnt.
The upland vegetation along the perimeter of Wclland was dominated Uy Ilimalayan blackberry,
with rcd aldcr saplings, black cottomvooJ, bittcr chcrry (Pnutis emnrginaa) saplings, and Vailing
blackbcrry(Rubrs vilifclius)co-dominanis in somc of thc sunounding arcas.
Ilydrology. Soiis were saturated_to thc surf<ce in Wetland A during the investigation. Standing
vatcr was obscrvcd at 3 inches depth. The drainage that WcUand A spans appears to be thc primary
source of hydrology. Thc bottom of thc drainage ditch is roughly %z-foot lowcr than aljacent
portions of Wetland A. Soil moisture within tLe wetland is likely influcnced lhrough subsarface
hydrologic exchange. I iowevcr, the drainagc also appears to ovcrtop as evidenced by croded ditch
slopes where he drainage passes througli the wcUand and sand deposits in adj:icent portions of thc
weUand. Given its position in a depressionnl arca, Nctland A also likcly reccivcs surfacc runoff
from adjaccnt areas upslopc.
VeQand unetions. iluc to the small sizc (d,2G8 squarc fect) and degraded nature, Wctland A
p-ovidcs minimal fiuictions. Its proximity to thc sc:,sonal drainagc and its siluation in a slight
depression indicate lhat it provides some stomnvater attcnuation. Ilowever, the benefits are
minimal due to thc small volumc of watcr it is capable of retaining. Groimdwater exchange
fimctions are discoanlable given thc small size. Wetland A provides minimal wildlife habitat
fimctiona because it is small and a siiificant portion is dominated by reed canarygnss, an invasive
vecd. Hovever, the shrub and herbaccous vcgcation components likely pnvide cover for
common passcrinc birds, such as song sparrov (Afelosprzn melorlia), dark-eycd junco (Jturco
hyemnlis), spottcd tow6ce (Pipr/o mnculnhrs), and Atncric.tn robin (Ttrrdts mrgrntorits). Past and
on-going disturbancc has resulted in an area dominated by wceds, with some portions bvren and
trampled Gom foot traffic and clu:tcrecl with litter. As a result, Wetlmid .1 provides little aesthe.ic
fimction and virlually no educational opportunity in its current statc.
VeUand Cl:issifir.tition. Wctland A is classificd as a palustrine scnb-shnib/emergent wetland
vith a seasonally saturated water regime (PSS/EN1Y) folloving the USFWS classification system
(Cowardin et al., 1979). Wetland A is not associatecl with a higtt-quality wetland community au;
does not wver at Ieast 5 acres. Thcreforc, it docs not qualify as a Categery I wedand (Exccptional
Resource Valuc) following the City of Everett's MuniciUil Code.
According to thc City's Code, Category II vetlands are idcntified as those wetlands that provide
"Significant Resource Value"id typically cover at Ieas! 1 acre. Wedand A covers less than 1 cre
(0.10 acrc), is dominatc<1 by ced spccies, and is associatccl with a ditched, seasona] dainage,
P.b10D4YB0711021310`AODeAIFevisNWetlaMRepatJu'yNM.doC
Scnsitive Arcas Gvalualion ti July 2004
Silvcr I.akc Ccntcr Property
