Your first paragraph talks about the
IBC and the IRC, your letter would sound a lot more professional if you would take responsibility for the requirement rather
than attempt to hide behind some big universal book that the City of Everett had absolutely nothing to do with writing.
Regarding the 1) 2) and 3); doesn't City Code contain any requirements for contractor's to insure the permits they pull get
finaled? Apparantely not, you know who pulled th2 permit and when, as the homeowner 1 understand I am ultimately
responsible but you realiy don't have to be nasty about this, generally people don't respond well to threats. This letter
should have gone to the contractor with perhaps a copy to me to insure the contractor followed through. Please bear in
mind only you and the contractor know what tlie requirerrents aa, the homeowner simply hires the contractor who in turn
gets the required International permits from the City to do the job. Notice how the homeowner is not involved in the permit
process.
In response to your last paragraph do I sense a veiled threat? Prospective buyers and lending institutions have access to
these records. Come on Margaret, you and I both know that although that is true the reality is that percentage wise very
very few evar routine!y ask for the ecords and even when they do, from persona! experience, your depariment is less
th2n heipful. You make retrieving these records so cumbersoine that unless there is a real problem the effort is more
trouble than it is worth.
To the best of my knowledge the work was complete in October 2005 and my current tenant moved in November 1st of
2005. Your letter suggests the permit should have been finaled by roughly March of 2006, approximately a year and four
months ago, I just have to Nonder why this is the tu::t I have heard from you and why all the threats. I also have to
wonder who really wrote that let;er, if anyone in City Government believes "heavy handed" tactics work they should really
be wary of their job security come time for cuts or elections as letters noC carefully worded could be a detriment.
All of this being said i will be happy to assist in completing the permit process as required by all the National Codes, if the
City of Everett happens to have any requirements I'll be happy to do what I can to comply with those codes as well just let
me know what they are. It doesn't appear ircm your letter you are willing to volunteer much information so I'll start by
agreeing to play your game of twenty questions by asking what was inspected, what is missing, wnat still needs to be
inspected, when would you like to inspect it, what is it going to cost me and do I need a new permit? If 1 need a new
permit is that a National Permit or a City Permit? Is there a difference and if so what is the difference?
Thank you in advance for any assistance you may be willing to provide in getting this problem taken care of.
Tom Joehncic
7/6/?007
