Source Specific Ventilation (spot fans)sh e provided for each dwelling
as follows: Exhaust fans providing source specific ventilation shall have a minimum fan flow rating of not less
than 50 CFM at .25 irches water gauge tor batfirooms, laundry or similar rooms, and 100 CFM at .10 wg.tor
kitchens (most range hood fans meet this requirement). 'See Approved Fan List'
Whole house Ventilation Systems (302.2.2 VIA): Each dwelling unit shall be equipped with a whole
house ventilation system which shail be capable of providing at least 0.35 air changes per hour, but not less
than 75 cubic feet per minute. Wlioie house ventilation systems shall be designed to limit ventilation to a level
no greater than 0.5 air changes per hour under normal operation conditions. W hole house ventilation
systems shall supply outdoor air inlets, forced•air heating system, ducting or equivalent means. Doors and
operabie lites in windows are deemed not to meet ihe outdoor air supply intake requirements. Whole house
fan must meet max. 1.5 sone rating unless fan is mounted at least 4 Ft. above the ceiling. Required spot
fan(s)may be designated,as whole house fan if it meets all requirements for the whole house fan, and
doors are undercut(or other approved means)for air distribution.
Source of Whole House Ventilation: (choose one) q
0 f
Option #1 W hole house exhaust fan.
Whole house Exhaust fan Prescriptive Requirements (Table 3-2 VIAQ)
Location Manuf:&Modei ? ` ;tt%,-= Sone Ratirg —
\ . -. - - 1.5 max:
1.5 max. -
(Smaller CFM is allowed (or whoie house(an set up (or continuous operation: Kitchen =25 CFM,
bath our laundry=20 CFM. Fan must be rated(or continuous operaticn).
 Option#2 Integrated Forced Air Furnace.
All ventilation systems must have readily accessible conirols with the exception of continuously operating
systems. Source-specitic fans must have eilher a manual switch, dehumidistat, or a crank timer.
Intermiflently operatiny whole house ventilation systems must have both a manual control and an automatic
control (such as a clock timer). When timers are used Ihey must be set tor a minimum daily run time of 8 I
hours.
 Option #3 Supply tan ventilatior.
Ths method provides fresh air to all habitable spaces through the use of a dedicated supply fan. This system
can be iistalled irconjunction with a forced air heating system, or as a stand alone supply air system. In both
cases, duct runs are required to each habitable room.
❑ Option #4 Heat Recovery Ventilation System.
Exhaust Ducts shail be sized and installed according to Table 3-3 VIAQ, have a back draft damper, and be
insulated to R-4 if run in an unheated space. Ducts must terminate oufside the building and 3 teet from
openings into the building.
Select method of supplying fresh air(VIAQ)302.6.2):
pIndividual Ronm Outdoor Air Inlets: Screened, controllable, ventilating windows or through-wall
ports to the exterior(capable of providing a min. of 4 sq. inches in all habitable rooms).
Integrated Forced Air Furnace: Fu,nace which delivers outside air through the ducting system.
System Shall be installed and tested according to the provisions o( Sec. 302.6.3&303.12 VIAQ.
The installing contractor shall test arid adjust system, and submit certification of compliance to
lhis department prior to the tinal insoection.
Heat Recovery Ventilation System: Air to air heat exchangers are required to have min. 6"duct,
balancing dampers un inlet and exhaust ducts, flow grids instalied on both supply and return ducts.
Syslem minimum flow rating shall be not less Ihan that specified in Table 3-2 WSEC.
3/N
