Planning Commission October 21, 2008 Pg. 7
Meeting Minutes
8:19:36 PM
A resident from 2514 Leonard stated that she moved into the area 4 years ago.
Neighbors have been cleaning up their yards and painting their homes.
8:19:52 PM
Morrel Muller, 2807 21st Street, stated that he was in support of the historic overlay zone
and in support of the boundary to California. He felt that the idea of sending back to
citizens for further review would be anti-productive.
8:22:11 PM
Diana Eiden, 2414 Baker Avenue, stated that she is very active in the Riverside
Neighborhood Association and was a representative on the Home of Excellence
committee. She has witnessed many wonderful things that neighbors have done to their
homes and would like Planning Commission's support of the historical overlay zone.
8:23:48 PM
Alice Florry, 3308 Oakes Avenue, stated that she has lived in many areas of the City.
She referred to some Herald articles that alerted her to events happening in the
community. She commented that she had heard about the Riverside Overlay Zone and
was not a resident of the neighborhood. She mentioned that the Welcome to Riverside
Neighborhood sign is located on Everett Avenue and not California.
8:27:55 PM
Wesley Muller, 2807 21st Street, disagreed with the neighbor that felt that there was
inadequate notice. She stated that she was deaf, didn't read the newspaper, and she
doesn't watch TV but she knew about the Riverside Historic Overlay proposal. She
knew about it two years ago because she is interested in the neighborhood she lives in.
Her house was built in 1950.
8:32:45 PM
Judy Corcoran, 2720 Victor Place, supports the overlay. She moved to the Riverside
area because of the incredible architectural character of the homes. There is pride of
homeownership in the area. Thanked the Riverside Historic Committee for all the work
that they have done. No reason that anyone should not have known about the Riverside
Historic Overlay Zone two years ago.
8:35:08 PM
Patrick Rood, 2522 Baker Avenue Rude, supports overlay zone.
8:36:01 PM
Bill Belshaw, 2111 Rucker, lives in the Bayside historic overlay zone. He stated that the
historic overlay zone has accomplished for the neighbors what it was meant to do—
preserve and protect the historical nature of the structures and neighborhood. When the
historic overlay zone was adopted by City Council, bad development stopped.
Development and redevelopment just gets better and better over time. In his
experience, the neighborhood and homes are more valuable. He felt that the most
effective part of the rezone had been in the area that was zoned R-4. The guidelines are
for every type of structure just not single family.
