About two blocks from me, in the middle of homes from the
1920's and 30's, is a split level house. It is totally out of place and detracts from the continuity and
visual aesthetic of the street_
Across the street from me is a very small home that was recently sold. One of my fears and that of my
neighbors was someone would purchase the property, demolish the building and in it's place build
a home that would be completely out of character with the surrounding homes. We were lucky. The
new owner, like many Riverside residents, chose the property because of the surrounding older homes
and will be building a craftsman style cottage.
By approving the proposed overlay, you will be protecting a unique and increasingly
uncommon neighborhood.
I ask you approve the Riverside Historic Overlay Zone.
Thank you,
Karol Dereg
2121 Baker Avenue
file://S:\JMeston\Historic Preservation\Historic Overlay Zones\Riverside Overlay\Public C... 10/8/2008
