The homes in this neighborhood are nearly 100 years old, full of
character and charm, and was the reason I moved here. I would like to retain the look and
feel of this wonderful area! It has changed for the better in the years I've lived here,
and I know it would continue if we had some protection in place.
I have talked to a number of neighbors about the Historic Overlay. Nearly all are in
favor, once they understand what it's all about. A few who recently found out about it
through city mailings were initially opposed.
They thought the city was behinid it. When they found out the neighborhood is rallying to
protect itself, they threw in their support.
We neighbors are thrilled to enjoy our wide-open sidewalks free of garages and curb cuts.
We see our friends on their porches as we walk by and wave.
We sit on our porches and see the joggers, dog-walkers, bicycles, and strollers pass by.
We love the trees, the grassy lawns, the attracative low fences, the wonderful
architecture. We work on our very old homes, restoring them lovingly. Some of us even try
to keep our lawns looking good (I need to work harder on this) !
Sincerely,
Steve Fox
2510 Baker Ave
(Built in 1908)
1
